Dordogne/Perigord
The Perig̣rd is an old province of France corresponding to the
current department of the Dordogne. It is an area of rolling hills,
historic chateau and picture post card villages. The area is noted for
its cuisine, particularly products such as foie gras , truffles and
Bergerac and Monbazillac wines. The region offers much for the active
visitor such as canoeing, rock climbing, trekking, quad biking and horse
riding. Lakes with inland beaches and numerous
visitor attractions make
the Dordogne an appealing family destination.
Perigueux and Sarlat
are towns steeped in history and the area is known
as the 'birthplace of mankind' due to its wealth of Prehistoric sites of
which the most famous is the painted cave of Lascaux
